Pop Works Apple Pie Popcorn

It is always a pleasant surprise to come home only to find that your ever so kind mother has bought you something new to try that just so happens to be accidentally vegan. 

 

The packaging itself is rather snazzy and stands out from the other products on the shelves with its eye catching metallic foil and bright colours. The bag is 90g so it is well filled.

The flavour is rather lovely with the apple sour tang of the apple being the dominant flavour. The cinnamon worked well as you would expect from this classic flavour combination and brought a nice sweetness to balance out the sour flavour of the apple. I really enjoyed this and still can't quite believe that it is entirely free from dairy!

 

The popcorn is of a good quality with almost no unpopped popcorn kernels. The flavour was well distributed and evenly coating the popcorn.

Sunbites Sweet and Salty Wholegrain Popcorn

Popcorn is probably one of my favourite snacks out there. It is healthy, moreish, filling, versatile, and generally low in calories, so obviously when I saw this new offering in my local Tesco I couldn't help but pick up a bag. 

The packaging is really nice, I quite liked the bag, but if I'm honest, that is where my compliments end. The flavour itself was pretty awful, it was far too salty and the balance of sweetness was totally off, I had several friends and family members to try it and give me their opinion in case it was just me being horribly biased with my sweet tooth, but no, they all replied with the same thing. Too much salt! I even bought another bag in case I had a dodgy bag, but unfortunately I was faced with the exact same issue! I couldn't even finish a bag, which is a very rare thing for me as I normally persevere and suffer through it. I honestly would not recommend this to anyone and would urge you to instead buy a better brand such as Propercorn or Portlebay!

Tyrrell's Sweet & Salty Poshcorn

As you all know, I am a massive fan of popcorn, so it is a bit strange that it has taken me this long to actually try any of their range! So obviously I had to rectify this issue and try it immediately.
The popcorn itself comes in a lovely looking bag, I really like the simplicity of the design and how it looks quite posh and sophisticated whilst still having a fun look to it. I was equally impressed when I opened the bag to find that it was very well filled, everything looked evenly coated and I couldn't see any unpopped corns.
The flavour itself is lovely, just enough saltiness to work with the sweetness from the sugar. I really enjoyed it and you could tell that it was of a high quality!

Propercorn Smooth Peanut & Almond Popcorn

Popcorn is easily one of my favourite foods (as you will have noticed from my excessive popcorn reviews...) So I jumped at the chance to try this brand new Peanut & Almond popcorn from the incredible brand that is Propercorn. 

First off I am going to comment on the packaging because it is honestly stunning. It is minimalist with a good helping of style. I just love it and I think that it epitomises the brand as a whole. 

I can't get over how unique this flavour is, I would never have thought of having nutty popcorn, and not just the obvious peanut, but the under-utilised almond too! Now, the only question is, does it live up to expectations? 

Well the short answer is oh dear lord yes! It surpasses my expectations. It is creamy and nutty as though you are eating nut butter with the delicious fluffy, bouncy crunch of popcorn. It is so well done, the coating is even throughout and there wasn't a single unpopped corn in any of my bags, which is really impressive because in some brands there is more unpopped corns that there are popped!  

This bag felt so indulgent, I can't believe that it is only 120 calories because it tastes so good! It is just divine and I love it. Plus, it is fabulously vegan!

Portlebay Sweet Popcorn Varieties

I had been desperately trying to locate the sweet varieties of Portlebay popcorn, but alas, I had little success. So with a little help from the kind people at Portlebay, I received a lovely delivery courtesy of them! Their flavours are wonderfully unique, never have I ever heard of a berry popcorn or lemon sherbet popcorn but here they are and I was so excited to try them!

I shall start with the cinnamon because, well, that was the first flavour that I tried! There is no better way to describe this other than I loved it! It was absolutely divine, the flavour was subtle but pleasantly sweet. The popcorn itself was light, fluffy, well coated and had absolutely no unpopped kernels! What more can I say?! They were delicious.

The lemon sherbet is incredible. Just wow. There is a good lemony flavour with a slight sour tang that you would expect from lemon sherbet, but the sweetness of the popcorn is the predominant flavour. It was a lovely refreshing snack that I absolutely loved! Such a unique concept that was executed brilliantly.

The Very Berry flavour was equally as delicious! It was lovely and natural flavoured with a good amount of tang that added a bit of an edge to the flavour. It was very enjoyable and filling! Another win by Portlebay Popcorn in my opinion!

Propercorn Sweet Ginger and Orange Popcorn

Propercorn has to be one of my favourite brands at the moment so you can understand my excitement when the kind people of Propercorn contacted me! The Sweet Ginger and Orange flavour is simply incredible, it is such a unique concept and the taste certainly lives up to my high expectations. It has a lovely gingerbread flavour with a subtle underlying hint of orange that worked very well with the slightly spiced ginger. I honestly can't get enough of this popcorn and I am devastated that there aren't any Waitrose's in my city but alas I will make do with all of the other lovely flavours that Propercorn has to offer!

Basically I loved this popcorn and I am excited for all future flavours that will be released!

Fiery Worcester Sauce and Sun Dried Tomato Propercorn

Popcorn is basically a staple part of my diet, I would be lost without it (okay, maybe I am a little prone to hyperboles but oh well). I love how it can be sweet or savoury, healthy or not quite so healthy and sometimes even a little spicy! Just like today's bag.

This flavour of 'Fiery Worcester Sauce and Sun Dried Tomato' certainly has a spicy kick to it, but not so much that you can't enjoy the subtle and absolutely delicious tomato flavour. 

I am not the biggest lover of spicy food but I absolutely love this popcorn, it is filling, fluffy, light and flavoursome, all the whilst remaining very healthy and good for you with less than one hundred calories a bag. They work well as an afternoon snack or as a part of your lunch. Add a little spice to your life and enjoy a bag!

Walkers Sensations Cinnamon Popcorn

Popcorn-good. Cinnamon-good. Cinnamon Popcorn... VERY VERY GOOD! As you will have guessed from my opening statement, this review will be about cinnamon popcorn, and obviously I loved it! The cinnamon flavour is sweet with a slight hint of salt which only adds depth and sweetness to the overall taste, to create a sensation (excuse the pun, but I simply could not resist).

 Popcorn is a relatively healthy snack in comparison to crisps and other fried goods like that, so I cannot possibly feel guilty about enjoying this treat of an evening! I am thrilled that the popcorn market seems to be expanding and becoming more and more adventurous with bolder and inspiringly unique flavours, that make snacking a pleasure!

Overall, I loved this. I can't praise it enough and I shall be making this a frequent part of my diet.

Portlebay Popcorn

You must be getting fed up of me what with all the popcorn reviews but I promise that this will be the last for a while and I am going out with a bang because, oh my goodness these Portlebay flavours are delicious! 

They are all excellent quality with fresh, soft pieces and no unpopped corn kernels (something which irritates me to no end!). I honestly can't find much to fault this delicious tasting popcorn on because it is just so good! I think that my favourite flavour had to be the Wasabi and Sweet Ginger which surprised me, I normally stay away from wasabi as it is too spicy and hurts my nose to eat them but the ginger worked incredibly well and toned the wasabi down! And as a result I absolutely loved it!

Overall they are a good quality popcorn with unique and delicious flavours that have left me excited for all future offerings from Portlebay!

The kind people at Portlebay did send me these but as always I gave an honest review

VegFestUk Competition and Metcalfes Chocolate Crackle Popcorn Review

Before I write my review I thought that I would share this competition with you all! I have two sets of tickets to give away for the VegFestUk event that is to be held on the weekend of 23rd May in Bristol. 

This festival takes place on May 23rd 24th 25th at the Amphitheatre in Bristol city centre. It traditionally features a vegan food fayre during daytime, and headline music in the evenings, and has attracted 20,000 – 25,000 visitors in the past 2 years.

This year's headliners are:

- Boney M ft. Maizie Williams, Gwen Dickey's Rose Royce, Abba Gold on Friday May 23rd
- Peter Hook and the Light, Ruts D.C., Goldblade on Saturday May 24th
- Zion Train, Black Roots on Sunday May 25th

I love popcorn, I truly do. It has to be one of my favourite snacks because it can be sweet, savoury or a bit of both! I decided to try the Chocolate Crackle flavour of the Metcalfes range. The bag contains only 230 calories which although much higher than the other flavours but it is a larger bag, plus it contains chocolate too which is always a nice addition to practically anything.

The coating on the popcorn is a little uneven so the flavour was a bit hit and miss which was sad because when you got a hit of the chocolate toffee flavour it was simply divine!

Overall I am a little on the fence because despite it being tasty It is rather filling so makes a really good afternoon snack that doesn't leave you wanting more. But I must say that the price is rather off putting at £1.50 a bag it is quite pricey, especially when there are other brands that are just as nice if not better in bigger bags for less.

Sweet Coconut and Vanilla Propercorn

Whilst I was wandering around Boots looking at all the items in the sale, I couldn't help but notice this bright pink package out of the corner of my eye and was instantly drawn to them! And I am rather glad that I did, because it combined two of my favourite things. Popcorn and coconut. Now I know that this sounds like a bizarre idea but I promise you that it works, and very well at that.
The flavour is sweet and mildly coconutty so that it doesn't overwhelm you, with vanilla being the predominant flavour here.
The popcorn is of the high quality that is to be expected from a brand such as Propercorn and it is relatively low in calories, coming in at only 109 per bag.

Metcalfe's Cinnamon Skinny Topcorn

Cinnamon is generally quite an underused flavour here in England, which in my opinion is an absolute travesty as it is so incredibly delicious and versatile so when my mum came home with a pack of metcalfes skinny popcorn in cinnamon flavour I was so excited and couldn't wait to try this out !

There is a good distribution of cinnamon, which every piece of popcorn covered with a light dusting of it, it also added a lovely golden colour to the popcorn which looked lovely. Once again there were no unpopped pieces of corn in the bag so my teeth are still safe and in one piece!

There is a great texture that is to be expected from metcalfes not too crunchy like Butterkissed is but not too soft. 

The bag is pretty well filled with an even coating of cinnamon flavouring so that you get to enjoy the slightly sweet warmth that undeniably makes me think of Christmas despite it being sunny and warm outside not to mention there still being several months until it is Christmas!

Metcalfes Skinny Topcorn Sweet n Salt

Popcorn is such a versatile snack, you can have it sweet, you can have it savoury or you can even have it sweet and salty. I flavour combination I truly do love! So as you may have guessed I really like this Metcalfe's Skinny Topcorn! The popcorn itself is rather healthy and retained a softness yet slight crispness that you would expect from a perfectly popped corn kernel.

There were no unpopped kernels in my packet which is a lovely change from when you got to the cinema and nearly break your teeth! 

The flavour was perfectly balanced with the sweet and salty so that you could enjoy the best of both worlds! Overall I totally love this and look forward to trying some of the other deliciously unique flavours that are available!
